Kevin Denoyette
b. 1986, Ghent, Belgium
Kevin Denoyette is a predominantly self-taught oil painter, working primarily within the themes of landscape and still life. In his work, he explores the boundaries between realism as it portrays drawing and tone, and impressionism as it pertains to light effects and atmosphere - a dialogue between painting as a representational act and abstraction.
Having begun his artistic journey whilst living in Sweden, he spent two years in California taking workshops, exploring the landscape and working primarily out of doors. Following his studies in the US, he spent several more years furthering his craft both in the studio and in exploring the local landscape in his home country, before finally returning to California where he now resides. his work establishes a link between a subject's reality and that imagined by its conceiver. He searches for an arrangement of shapes or an aspect of light or quality of air, and within that hopes to depict moments that serve to clarify our existence and to find poetic meaning in everyday life.
